SECOND CONTRACTION
After the first contraction is complete, the vets will have a vote on whether to have a second contraction immediately (that could be completed before Thanksgiving week), or to wait until after Thanksgiving week (placing the second contraction around December 1st).
CONTRACTION ANNOUNCEMENT
My original plan was to wait until the weekend. I usually stick pretty close to those plans as you have seen, but a few factors have caused me to change my mind and speed up contraction.
1) The discussion on the board over the last two days- this is obviously a hot topic and after considering everyone's feedback, I think the vets are ready to vote and move things forward and I think the newbies are ready to know their fate so they can either leave the league or continue working on improving their teams.
2) KU-Texas on Saturday- We will not have bidding on Saturday due to the KU-Texas football game. I and many others will be at the game and tailgating most of the day. That means we need to get started a little earlier.
HERE IS THE PLAN: I will send out an email to all the vets requesting their vote by 8pm tonight. Once all the votes are in OR we have at least 5 Vet votes to contract one manager (establishing a majority) I will announce who the contracted manager is. I will then remove that managers players to the free agent pool and set up the contraction bidding. The contracted manager will have the opportunity to return for the second season provided they leave here on good terms. I will then lock up their team.
Contraction Bidding will begin tomorrow morning.
Here is the contraction bidding schedule:
Wednesday
Round 1 7am-2pm
Round 2 2pm-9pm
Thursday
Round 3 7am-2pm
Round 4 2pm-9pm
Friday
Round 5 7am-2pm
Round 6 2pm-9pm
Saturday
NO BIDDING
Sunday
Round 7 7am-2pm
Round 8 2pm-9pm
If any further rounds are necessary. We will continue on Monday. All players on a roster as of NOW that were drafted are eligible for bidding. I will repost the contraction bidding process in a separate message.

CONTRACTION PLAN
Thanks for everyone's feedback. Here is what we are going to do:
1. We will hold a contraction vote the weekend of November 15th-16th. Each vet will vote via email on which newbie manager they would like to see contracted. If there is a tie, we will then revote on the tied parties only to determine who is contracted.
2. We will start contraction bidding following the previously posted contraction process on Monday, November 17th with two rounds per day. Each round will last 6-8 hours (one ending in mid afternoon, one in the evening). Note: Any drafted player may be used in contraction bidding, but they must be on your roster before Saturday, November 16th. Also, you will have the opportunity to bid on players you used in contraction, but you may not use a player you won in contraction bidding to bid on other players during that week of contraction. You get to bid once during each round, so prioritize your targets and make your best bids.
3. If a newbie that is not contracted volunteers, they may adopt the contracted newbie as a co-manager. I will not force this on anyone, it is your option.
4. Contracted newbies from season 1 will have the option of returning for season 2, which will be formed in early December, drafted in mid December, and start scoring January 1st, assuming they were contracted on good terms.
5. This will allow us to have contractions during season 2 as well.
6. Invitiations for next year's league will be based on overall performance and improvement during both seasons as well as availability and returning vet interest (and whoever Commish is if it isn't me next year).
Feel free to ask any questions, but I think this is pretty straightforward.
Newbies, this gives you a week and a half to show us what you got. Good luck.

Injured Player Policy
Since it's likely we will have Ellis, Ginobili and Arenas sitting on the FA market soon (at least they should be), we will handle the return of any seriosuly injured player (out at least a month or 15 games) that has been dropped like this: When they are about to return, we will hold contraction style bidding on that player. Please refer to the contraction process post in the blog for the details on how this bidding works if you havent already.

Tentative Contraction Process
Here is my plan for contraction. We are at 14 teams and I think the league operates best with 11-12 teams. That means we will need to contract 2-3 teams at some point to reach that number. Here is what I'm thinking: We will draft. We will definitely contract at least 2 teams (one at a time), but it will not be scheduled.
I think this could play out two ways:
1. Someone always seems to contract themselves through missing the draft, not participating in discussion, not responding to trade offers, not seeking to make any moves, or just being a general disruption to everyone else in the league. If I feel or there is a general feeling that this is occuring, I will take a vote of the Veteran's Committee on whether to have a contraction. I will then take votes from the Veteran's Committee on who to contract if the committee has voted (at least 5 out of 9 votes) to contract.
2. If we reach December 1st and we are still over 12 teams, the Veteran's Committee will vote on whether to have a contraction and who to contract. I have a feeling a couple of teams will have weeded themselves out by December 1st, but we'll see.
If we get to December 1st and we have 12 teams, we will roll with what we have unless the league deems that someone else is worthy of being contracted for some grievous offense.
This is my plan, but I would like to do two things before we set that in stone.
1. I would like any feedback or suggestions any of you guys may have.
2. I will finalize this process after the draft. The draft may give us some further insight into how our newbie class may fare here.
For the newbies, you basically need to hit the ground running after the draft. Participate in discussions, be involved in trade activity and do whatever you can to improve your team. If you do that, you stand a decent chance of survival. Like I've said earlier, 2-3 newbies usually survive their first season in this league. We've all been there, and being a vet in this league is a lot of fun.
